July

July started off exciting enough with a trip out of the valley. We went to Smyer where my grandma celebrated her 80th birthday! Then on to Quitaque where we camped with David's parents, siblings, nephews, and nieces. Then on to Amarillo to spend a few days with one of David's sisters. Then we drove home. The next week swimming lessons began. They were supposed to last for 2 weeks. After 1 and a 1/2 weeks, Dolly hit. It was supposed to go to Brownsville, but it actually hit Arroyo City which is just east of us. That means that we got hit hard. When the hurricane hit us sustained winds were at 85 with gusts up to 120. 4 1/2 inches of rain landed in the gage. At least 10 more landed on the ground. A tree is uprooted in the church's yard. Our neighbor's tree uprooted and fell into our yard. Missed our house by a hair. 90% of our county is without electricity. We are one of the lucky 10%. It is a mess. The water is not safe to drink. We have lots of pictures, but I'm too tired to post them.
